WIP Wednesday – Black and White Quilt Update

This past week has been very busy, but I’ve managed to get quite a bit of work done on my black and white zig zag quilt.

Now I just have to sew the rows together, quilt, and bind it. I’m brainstorming what kind of quilting to do with it.  I feel like I always do stippling or straight line quilting and I want to try to stretch myself a little and do something different. I was thinking possibly doing straight line quilting on the actual patterned zig zags and then some sort of free motion quilting in the white space, perhaps something swirly that breaks up the geometric pattern of the zig zags.  Any suggestions out there?

I’m hoping to finish this quilt this weekend but if I’m realistic, I know that’s not going to happen.  I’ve got a couple of busy days of work ahead of me and Saturday is going to be a full day of spring actvivities! We’re going to build some raised beds for our vegetable garden. The first plant that’s going in are my peas. My tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and herbs are all growing happily inside under flouresent lights until it’s warm enough to transplant them outside in a few weeks.  Can’t wait for the spring to finally get here!

Linking up at Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday.  Let me know if you’re visiting from there; I would love to hear from you!

  1. Love your use of the black/white fabrics in the zigzags. Have you thought of playing with stones/bubbles for the quilting? Might look kind of cool in the white. Good luck.

  2. The ziz-zags look great! I like how each row is a different fabric. I think straight lines on the prints and swirls in the background would look awesome 🙂

    • Thanks! I am halfway through quilting it with swirls. I decided to go with swirls throughout the whole thing since I chose a dark gray fleece for the backing and the quilting really showed up on the back.
