I’ve made a bit more progress with my black and white zig zag quilt. I’ve done a little more than half of the quilting on it. I chose to do a swirly free motion quilting pattern. This is the first time I’ve done anything besides straight line quilting or stippling so I’m pretty proud of myself for learning something new. It was a little slow-going at first, but things started to pick up once I got the hang of it. I used a charcoal gray fleece for the backing . I just love quilts backed with fleece. I know it’s not traditional, but it’s just so cozy! This quilt has already been being used to cuddle with on the couch even though it’s half-filled with safety pins. It’s safe to say this will be a well-loved quilt in our home.
I love the way the swirls look on the dark backing.
What have you all been working on this past week? Any good projects to share?
This past week has been very busy, but I’ve managed to get quite a bit of work done on my black and white zig zag quilt.
Now I just have to sew the rows together, quilt, and bind it. I’m brainstorming what kind of quilting to do with it. I feel like I always do stippling or straight line quilting and I want to try to stretch myself a little and do something different. I was thinking possibly doing straight line quilting on the actual patterned zig zags and then some sort of free motion quilting in the white space, perhaps something swirly that breaks up the geometric pattern of the zig zags. Any suggestions out there?
I’m hoping to finish this quilt this weekend but if I’m realistic, I know that’s not going to happen. I’ve got a couple of busy days of work ahead of me and Saturday is going to be a full day of spring actvivities! We’re going to build some raised beds for our vegetable garden. The first plant that’s going in are my peas. My tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and herbs are all growing happily inside under flouresent lights until it’s warm enough to transplant them outside in a few weeks. Can’t wait for the spring to finally get here!
Linking up at Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday. Let me know if you’re visiting from there; I would love to hear from you!
