I have officially finished my first knitting project! I made this cute cowl from a pattern I saw on ravelry called GAP-tastic Cowl. The cowl was knit on size 13 circular needles in seed stitch. It took a while in … Continue reading
I’ve been learning how to knit my first pair of socks and what better time to do so than during a snowstorm! I’m using a basic sock pattern from ravelry.com and a pretty purple striped sock yarn that I picked … Continue reading
Knitting under a cozy quilt while watching Twilight. Life doesn’t get much better than this!
For my birthday this past Sunday, I decided the gift I would be giving myself was an instructional knitting book and a pair of knitting needles. That’s right… for my 24th birthday I am going to teach myself how to knit! I taught myself how to crochet a couple of months ago and I’ve been wanting to learn how to knit as well. I think it’d be nice to see something and say “I want to make that!”, regardless of whether it’s knit or crocheted. Also I’m kind of obsessed with having a million hobbies all at once so, it’s only natural I should pick up one more. 🙂
The book I purchased was called Stich ‘N Bitch by Debbi Stoller. It’s a great book! It has a lot of good commentary and very clear instructions on how to get started. It also includes a lot of cute patterns for different knit items. I’ve so far not made anything of substance but I have been practicing and I think I have both the knit and purl stitches down fairly well (albeit I’m super slow) so I need to decide what I should pick for my first knitting project!
In other birthday news, my fiance got my a new cutting mat as my birthday gift. It is HUGE and I totally love it. I’m super excited to work on a 3’x4′ mat rather than the teeny one I had before. It’ll make things much easier, especially when I have larger pieces to cut. I’m very lucky to be marrying a man who can confidently walk into Joann Fabrics and purchase a cutting mat. 🙂
As much as I love my new cutting mat, the best birthday present was my mom coming up from Florida to stay with us this past weekend. We had a good time visiting family, including meeting my cousin’s new sweet baby girl. We also spent some time crocheting together Saturday afternoon. My mom hasn’t crocheted since she was younger than me but was easily able to pick it again and she made a cute little beer coozy to bring back to Florida with her. It was nice being able to spend time together!
Now off to find some of that leftover ice cream birthday cake…
